Employee Benefit News publishes The State of Caregiving Benefits in 2023 research report

This report analyzes how organizations are investing in direct care support and other benefits to alleviate the strain that affects caregiving employees.

NEW YORK (PRWEB) MAY 23, 2023

A new report from Arizent, the parent company of Employee Benefit News, an information resource for decision makers in benefits and human resources, examines how organizations are providing assistance to caregiving employees by offering direct care and other benefits. Sponsored by Calm, the research indicates that most employers are falling short, with only one-in-five respondents saying their company is providing dedicated resources to support caregivers.

With an estimated 20% of the American workforce managing caregiving responsibilities along with their professional jobs, many people are walking away from their work to provide time and attention their loved ones need. Employees report that a lack of overall support is the main driver of the stress, fatigue and anxiety that can ultimately lead to them leaving their job.

The report shows that employees who rate their company highly when it comes to caregiving support are much less likely to be interested in new positions, where 69% say that better caregiving benefits would be a primary or contributing factor with accepting a new role.

"Financial benefits can definitely help caregivers, but our research shows that this isn't an issue that employers can throw money at to avoid burnout and turnover," Janet King, Vice President of Arizent Research, says. "We've found that the best way for organizations to retain their top talent is by investing in specific support practices."

Caregivers know what kind of support would make them more productive in the workplace and allow for a healthier work-life balance. 39% of respondents name direct support care as the most effective strategy for meeting their needs, whether it involves access to additional caregivers or breaks from their obligations.

Furthermore, 44% of survey participants say that flexible work schedules and locations will help them manage their caregiving responsibilities.

Research Methodology

This study from Arizent/Employee Benefit News was conducted online in February and March 2023 among 500 employees across multiple industries and company sizes. The purpose of the survey is to understand how employees who are caregivers are balancing the demands of work, caregiving and the other parts of their life, including what additional support would be helpful. The survey was designed to get balanced regional representation of respondents, based on the U.S. Census.
