Scott Brickner has been Director of Finance for the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority since April 2009, responsible for the Authoritys financial planning and analysis, budgeting, treasury operations, financing and grant funding programs.Mr. Brickner began his career in 1995 at the St. Louis headquarters of McDonnell Douglas Corporation as a member of its Fiscal Development Program for high-potential new hires. In 1998, he joined Emerson Electric Company in St. Louis and was responsible for managing foreign currency risk and short-term borrowing. In 2000, Mr. Brickner joined Peregrine Systems in San Diego, becoming Treasurer in 2002 and playing an integral role in the companys successful emergence from bankruptcy and ultimate sale to Hewlett Packard in 2006. From 2006 to 2008, he served as Treasurer for Wireless Facilities, Inc., filling a vital role in transforming the company from a provider of wireless services to a provider of defense and security solutions. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Benedictine College in Kansas, an MBA from St. Louis University and is currently working to obtain his CPA license.
Geoffrey S. Chatas is the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Business and Finance for The Ohio State University, where he leads all financial activities, including the oversight of a $5 billion annual budget. A financial executive with significant experience in the higher education, power, aviation, and banking sectors, Geoff has had extensive experience in multi-cultural management, having worked and lived across Europe and the United States. In September 2012, Columbus Business First recognized him twice, naming him CFO of the Year and awarding him Transaction of the Year honors for the university�s sale of $500 million worth of 100-year bonds � making Ohio State the first public university to issue century bonds.� Also in 2012, Geoff served on a Fulbright-sponsored delegation of U.S. CFOs to Germany to study lean management practices in higher education.Mr. Chatas was appointed Senior Vice President for Business and Finance and Chief Financial Officer at The Ohio State University in February 2010.� He oversees all of the fiscal activities for both the Ohio State University and the Wexner Medical Center, the university�s academic medical center.� While at Ohio State he has championed resource generation initiatives with the goal of generating revenue to be reinvested in the academic core.� He successfully negotiated a parking transaction resulting in $483 million for the university�s Long-term Investment Pool.�� This investment generated $50 million in earnings in FY 2013, approximately $20.5 million of which was immediately available for expenditure on faculty, student, arts and sustainability/transportation initiatives.� He also leads streamlining efforts which netted $30 million in procurement savings in FY 2013.�In early 2014, Mr. Chatas assumed an additional role at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center as Senior Vice President for Optimization and Integration and Medical Center Chief Transformation Officer.� In this position, Geoff serves as an internal catalyst for growth at the Medical Center, bringing the same skills he has successfully used to generate new funding streams to fuel the University's core academic mission and foster greater operating effectiveness including hospitals, centers, institutes, out-patient sites, and affiliated faculty practices.Geoff came to Ohio State from JP Morgan Asset Management where he was Managing Director for the Infrastructure Investments Group. Prior to JP Morgan, Mr. Chatas spent most of his career focused on the energy and aviation sectors.�
Roger Patterson is the Vice President for Business and Finance at Washington State University and Treasurer of the Board of Regents. He joined the University in August 2010. He is responsible for a number of financial and facilities service areas, real estate and local relations, public safety, environmental health and safety, risk management and several auxiliary functions. Roger has over 26 years experience in higher education and 8 years experience in public accounting. Prior to joining WSU in August 2010, he served as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for 15 years and held several positions at Clemson University over a 9 year period. Roger co-author the Decision Support and Information Reporting Chapter in NACUBOs College and University Business Administration (CUBA), 7th Edition [2009], co-authored an article in Leadership Exchange entitled The Dueling Goals in Higher Education: Can a Focus on Students and a Market Ideology Co-exist? [April 2006], co-authored a NACUBO Business Officer Article titled Peak Performance [April 2005] and authored the Introductory Chapter for NACUBOs New Online Book on Managerial Analysis and Decision Support [July 2004]. He has spoken at several national and regional higher education conferences. Roger is a certified Public Accountant, a Certified Internal Auditor and was a recipient of NACUBOs Daniel D. Robinson Award for 2006. He holds a BBA in Accounting from the University of Georgia where he was a Member of Beta Alpha Psi, the national accounting honorary society. During his career, Roger has been active in several civic organizations including the Orange County Rape Crisis Center and Civitan International.
Gary Sokolow is a director in Fitch Ratings public finance health care group. He joined Fitch in 2007 and is responsible for analyzing and rating acute care hospitals, continuing care retirement communities, and nursing homes.Prior to joining Fitchs health care group, Gary worked in administration in the division of cardiology at the NYU School of Medicine. Prior to NYU, he was at the Greater New York Hospital Association as the manager of programs and grants in its foundation.Gary is a graduate of the Baruch/Mount Sinai MBA program in health care administration.
Ms. McAndrew is the Senior Director of Treasury Management at American University in Washington, DC. She joined the University in August 2009. As Senior Director, she oversees the Universitys investment and endowment portfolio, banking and cash management functions, debt issuance, and Student Account Services. Prior to joining American University, Ms. McAndrew was the Senior Director of Treasury Operations at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina for nine years. She joined Duke in 2000, after four years at The Catholic University of America, in Washington DC. At Duke, Ms. McAndrew was responsible for the endowment-investment accounting office as well as debt management and tax reporting. During her tenure, the University issued over $1.5 billion in debt and established a $500 million commercial paper program to support its campus capital expansion.Prior to her career in higher education, Ms. McAndrew worked in the non-profit audit division of KPMG in Washington, DC where she primarily focused on higher education institutions and large non-profit clients. Ms McAndrew is active in several leadership groups within the Treasury Industry. She is a founding member of The Treasury Management Leadership Group for Higher Education and serves as a Program Committee member for The Treasury Institute for Higher Education. Ms. McAndrew received her Bachelors Degree in Finance from Virginia Tech and her Masters Degree in Accounting from George Mason University.
Karen is the Vice President/Senior Analyst and co-team manager for Moody�s U.S. Higher Education and Not-for-Profit Team. She oversees a team of 17 analysts that conducts research and assigns credit ratings to close to 800 colleges, universities, and other not-for-profit organizations in the United States. She has direct analytical responsibility for a diverse portfolio of institutions, including Ivy League universities, large public university systems, complex academic medical centers, and nationally prominent not-for-profit organizations. Karen also helps coordinate the work of credit analysts globally on a growing number of universities, including ratings on universities in Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore, and Mexico. Karen has authored publications on topics including governance and management of U.S. universities, the impact of technological changes and online education, as well as privatized student housing and debt capacity.
