Michael Merwarth is Senior Vice President of Strategy & Innovation at USAA. In this role, he is responsible for setting and managing the strategic direction of USAA’s $16B P&C insurance group, which includes overseeing the company’s innovation and product/technology development programs.With over 22 years of property casualty experience, Michael held several USAA executive leadership positions prior to his appointment as Chief Underwriter in 2011. He has executive leadership experience in both P&C and Enterprise roles ranging from underwriting, product management, strategy, and business transformation.Michael currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and is active in several industry groups including the Institute for Business and Home Safety, the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes, the BuildStrong Coalition, and the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters. �He also routinely serves in the local community, including recent service as a board member of The San Antonio Children’s Shelter. He received his BA-Business Management degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. Michael is married with three children.

As co-founder of BladeLogic, he helped lead the company from idea and initial funding to IPO and subsequent $880 million acquisition by BMC Software. Throughout BladeLogic's eight-year trajectory from inception to acquisition, Vance held multiple leadership roles in product management, marketing, business development, pre-sales and operations.After BladeLogic was acquired by BMC Software in 2008, he remained with BMC Software for four years serving in various executive positions, including worldwide vice president of global services, sales operations, field marketing and software consulting. Most recently, Vance was president and CEO of Sumo Logic, leading the company from launch through multiple years of hyper growth in employees, customers and revenue. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems/Accounting from Babson College.

Matt Miller is the founder and CEO of Embroker, the first modern way to buy and manage business insurance.Prior to founding Embroker, he was a Principal at the private equity firm Hellman & Friedman, where he led investments in the insurance and software space.� While at H&F, he served on the board of directors of HUB International, Applied Systems, and Renaissance Learning. �Prior to joining Hellman & Friedman, Matt was a Vice President for Bain Capital in Boston and Hong Kong and a consultant for Bain & Company in New York.Matt graduated summa cum laude from Duke University, and earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar and co-president of the Private Equity club.�
Akbar Poonawala has more than 25 years of experience in transaction processing, banking, and related financial services at Deutsche Bank and Bankers Trust Company. He has held a variety of leadership roles including building discrete businesses globally, driving client origination and client management organizations and developing innovative business strategies.Prior to co-founding Pivot Investment Partners, Akbar was Managing Director and the Head of Deutsche Bank's Global Transaction Banking for the Americas. �In this capacity, Akbar led the growth of this business to over $1 billion of revenues in Cash Management, Trade Finance, and Trust & Securities Services targeting both Corporate and Financial Institutions clients throughout the Americas.In addition, he built the Global Equity Services business, which included Depositary Receipts, Registrar and Post-IPO Services, into a market leading business across ten international locations with a more than five-fold increase in revenues and over 900 Corporate and Financial Institutions clients. Akbar was also a member of the Deutsche Bank Americas Regional Executive Committee, the Global Transaction Banking ExecutiveCommittee, and the DB Americas Diversity Committee. Akbar also served on the Board of Directors of Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation.Previously, Akbar had served as the Head of Global Sales and Marketing for Corporate Trust & Agency Services where he was responsible for sales, marketing and relationship management across sixteen locations in Asia, Europe and the Americas.Earlier in his career, Akbar was Head of Asian Business Development for the Corporate Trust business of Bankers Trust and held management positions in the Global Securities Lending Division and the Management Consulting Group.Akbar is a Chartered Financial Analyst and graduated Beta Gamma Sigma with a Master of Business Administration in Finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business and top 1% of his class with a Master of Business Administration in Marketing and an undergraduate degree in Advanced Accounting from Poona University in India.
