Prior to joining BCV, Harris was the co-founder and Managing General Partner of Village Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm with over $175MM under management. Village Ventures focused on seed and early stage investing in the media and financial services sectors. At Village, Matt invested in a number of leading financial services companies, including BankSimple, Bluetarp Financial, Consumer United, Dwolla, iSend, MetaMarkets, OnDeck Capital and TxVia.
Harris began his career as a consultant at Bain & Company, and subsequently joined Bain Capital. At Bain Capital, Harris’ most notable transactions included the $1.1 billion purchase and subsequent sale of a credit-reporting agency, and the $90MM purchase of a medical products distributor. Harris left Bain Capital in 1997 to become the founding Managing Director of The Berkshires Capital Investors, a venture capital fund associated with Williams College. Under Harris’ leadership, BCI’s first fund of $5MM invested in 12 companies, with eight successful exits to date. The BCI organization, now a Village Ventures affiliate, has gone on to raise an additional $60MM.
Harris graduated from Williams College in 1994, and now lives in New York, NY. Harris is a member of the NYC Seed Advisory Board, Chairman of the Board of the Williamstown Theatre Festival and was a founding Board Member and Treasurer of Camp Starfish, a camp for troubled and disadvantaged youth outside Boston, MA.
Troy, a 13-year payments industry veteran, is responsible for driving continued expansion and success of Chip Payments for Discover Network. He leads the products and strategy areas including Discover Zip® (U.S. contactless) and D-PAS (EMV) products. Troy is also instrumental with many of Discover’s emerging payments partnerships with TSM’s, hardware and software manufacturers. Troy is one of the founding team members that created and launched the Zip contactless payment application. During his tenure, Zip acceptance has grown to over 200,000 U.S. merchant locations. Troy serves on the Smart Card Alliance’s Payments Steering Committee and is the Vice Chair of the Payments Council.
John Tonetti is a veteran with experience in most facets of the credit, collections, and risk management industry. Mr. Tonetti started his career in the credit card business, and worked as an executive at American Express, Citi, and Household/HSBC Credit Services. At HSBC, Mr. Tonetti was National Director of Risk Operations where he was responsible for collections and recovery on their portfolio of Bankcard and Private Label credit card accounts, and chaired the Credit Risk Committee. Mr. Tonetti left the issuer side to co-found and eventually become President of First Performance Corporation, a receivables management company doing business in both the first and third party collections space, with operations in Florida, Texas, and Nevada. First Performance collected on all types of asset classes, including credit card, installment loan, and auto deficiency. After selling First Performance, Mr. Tonetti worked in the debt brokerage business, and eventually became an independent industry consultant specializing in operations and technology integration. John joined the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in December 2011, and is the Debt Collections Program Manager in the Research, Markets, and Regulations division within the CFPB. He has an MBA in Management and a BA in Economics.
